Coughtry received a B.A. in 1977 from Principia College in Elsah, IL. In 1983 he received an M.A. from SUNY Albany. In 1984 he received an M.F.A. in Painting, also from SUNY Albany. Coughtry is currently an associate professor of art at Principia College and teaches Figure Drawing and Oil Painting. His works have been included in traveling exhibitions such as “Contemporary Painters of the Hudson River”, “The Artist as Native: Reinventing Regionalism”, and “Rediscovering the Landscape of the Americas”.
