DAN CHRISTENSEN Dan Christensen (born 1942, Cozad, Nebraska) received a B.F.A. in 1964 from the Kansas City Art Institute. From his early exploration of geometric minimalism, Christensen moved on to develop the playful, light-filled abstractions for which he is known. Utilizing unconventional tools, including spray guns and squeegees, he constructs luminous paintings and prints that pulse with improvisational rhythm. In these silkscreens, Christensen presents a carefree expanse of color that nearly fills the surface of the paper, over which he layers block-like shapes surrounded by quick bursts of line that encase the forms or explode outward. The images rely on color, light, and geometry to create exuberant, lyrical worlds filled with spontaneous energy.
