Erica Lennard studied at the San Francisco Art Institute before moving to Paris to begin her career. She is considered by many to be the preeminent working photographer of gardens. Combining classical compositions with the tonal richness of black and white photography, Lennard's images underscore the contemplative power of her chosen subject matter. For over twenty-five years she has focused on the beauty of nature through her photographs of the majestic formal gardens of Europe, the Zen gardens of Japan, the Moghul gardens of India, and the Imperial gardens of China. In addition, she has captured images of the pyramids in Egypt, the temples of Angkor Wat, and the palaces of India.

Lennard's work has been exhibited internationally, and is collected by such institutions such as Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris; Fondation Cartier pour l'art contemporain, Paris; and UC Berkeley Art Museum, Berkeley, California.
